How we help with your area rugs

Rugs are a cherished household item. However, they are prone to getting dirty with time. We understand the dread you may feel when you notice how unsightly your rugs have become. After all, proper care and cleaning are necessary to extend your rugs' lifetime and maintain high health standards. At Professional Carpet Systems & Professional Restoration Systems, we care about your needs and strive to bring life back into your rugs with our unique cleaning process.

We care for the finest to the most basic rugs from around the world, including:

  • Tribal Rugs
  • Area Rugs
  • Wool Rugs
  • Silk Rugs
  • Flokati Rugs
  • Box Store Rugs

Experts recommend in-plant rug cleaning for Oriental rugs and loose woven rugs. So, we will pick your rug up and bring it to our cleaning plant, where it will undergo our Nine-Step Cleaning System to get maximum soil and spot removal. Having your rug cleaned in our plant allows us to give it several treatments for a more thorough cleaning, controlled drying, and the use of various tools that are not available on location. Here's more information on what to expect from our area rug cleaning services:

  • Pick-up & delivery: We'll take your rugs to our facility for special in-plant cleaning and deliver them back to you.
  • Cash & Carry Service: You also have the option to save about 30% off your cleaning when you drop off the area rug at our office and pick it up upon completion.
  • First-class service: We show up on time and constantly communicate with you throughout the project.
  • Comprehensive care: Our Nine Step Cleaning System will get maximum soil and spot removal.
  • Satisfaction guaranteed: If you are not satisfied, we will fix the problem.

Our 9-step rug cleaning process

  1. Pre-inspection & pick up/drop off: We will determine as much as possible about the type of rug and inherent qualities that may affect cleaning. We will outline the expected results and cleaning prescription. Our company will come to your home to pick up your rug. Or you may drop it off at our shop and pick it up upon completion to save up to 30% off with our Cash & Carry Service.
  2. Dry soil removal: Woven rugs, especially hand-knotted rugs, are designed to hide dry soil. A few years ago, the Eureka company did a study and found that a 9 x 12 could hide 87 pounds of dirt! WOW! We use many techniques to dust the rugs from the front and back. We also implement a machine called a rug duster, special vacuum attachments, and many other methods. This is the most important step in cleaning any textile.
  3. Pre-condition: Depending on fiber content and soiling type, the rug will be pre-treated to emulsify the soil.
  4. Pre-spot & fringe preparation: Difficult spots will be pre-treated with unique solutions to increase the chances of removal. The fringe is also pre-treated for maximum soil removal.
  5. Shampoo: We clean most rugs with an Oriental Rug Shampoo to get maximum cleaning while protecting sensitive natural fibers.
  6. Rinse or wash: Depending on the type of rug, we rinse it with extraction equipment or wash it in a wash pit designed especially for Oriental Rugs.
  7. Speed dry: Once we rinse the soil, the rug is dried flat or hung to dry in a controlled environment. Proper drying is essential to avoid unnatural shrinkage.
  8. Finishing: We comb and finish with soft groomers made for specialty rugs after it is dry.
  9. Inspection & delivery/pick up: Our cleaning specialist will give the rug a final inspection and release it for delivery. You also have the option to pick up the rug upon completion to save up to 30% off with our Cash & Carry Service. Your rug will be wrapped in brown craft paper to protect it from dust and environmental soils until it is picked up or delivered. If you choose delivery, we will lay the rug for you.

How to care for your oriental rug

  • Rotation: Rotating the rug once a year ensures even wear. The rotation may vary from six months to two years, depending on the traffic.
  • Vacuuming: Oriental rugs, like most carpeting, should be vacuumed regularly to remove dirt and restore life to the fibers. Be sure not to vacuum the fringe with your beater bar! Use the end of a vacuum hose from a canister vacuum.
  • Padding: A quality pad used under your rug helps protect it from dirt, wear, and slippage.
  • Spot & spill procedures: Make sure that you safely and immediately clean up spots and spills before they set:
    1. First, soak up the excess liquid by blotting it with a clean absorbent material. Do not brush or rub the stain.
    2. Then, spot-clean with a mild detergent-white vinegar-water solution. Do not overwet.
    3. Rinse the area thoroughly with water and a small amount of vinegar. Avoid wetting the rug's backing.
    4. Blot dry until you absorb most of the moisture.
    5. Allow to air dry. You can use a fan or cool hair dryer to hasten the drying process.
    6. Call the experts at Professional Carpet Systems & Professional Restoration Systems for stains that do not come out using these methods.
